I mentioned this on-air last night during our show on child beauty pageants, and it's just so darn funny I had to post the video on our blog.
Lauren Caitlin Upton was a contestant in Miss Teen USA 2007, representing the state of South Carolina. She was asked why one in five Americans can't locate the USA on a world map, and here is her reply.
It's sad when you realize (a) just how bad the education system must be in some (or most?) parts of America, and (b) that girls like Lauren could come *this close* to being a so-called "role model" for America's young women.
Thank goodness Lauren did not win the competition. The title of Miss Teen USA 2007 was awarded to Hilary Cruz of Colorado, whom I dearly hope was brighter and more eloquent.
