Fourteen year old Laura Dekker is attempting to sail around the world solo! If she is successful, she will become the youngest person to do so. Interestingly, the person who currently holds that record is also another young woman - Jessica Watson from Australia. Jessica completed her trip around the world just a few days before her 17th birthday. So in order to beat that record, Laura must complete the trip before she turns 17 in September 2012. That gives her a little over two years to sail the world. Can you imagine being on a small yacht for two years?! ALONE?! AT AGE 14?! Pardon the expression, but this gal's got eggs! (Not balls).
Laura was born on a yacht off the coast of New Zealand and has been sailing solo since she was only 11 years old. Good luck Laura, stay safe and have fun!
