CJSW Funding Drive - Incentives to Pledge!

CJSW's 26th annual Funding Drive runs from Friday Oct 22 - Friday Oct 29! Please show your support for our radio station, which is almost entirely powered by volunteers! Did you know that all three hosts of Yeah What She Said volunteer their time to bring you this show and podcast?

Community radio is awesome because it's made by the people for the people, and there is absolutely no commercial bullshit! We think it's rad that CJSW devotes one hour of programming each week to women's/feminist issues, and if you think that's awesome too, then please donate on our show this year!

Urban Curvz' CURVILICIOUS

URBAN CURVZ’ annual showcase of local ladies, CURVILICIOUS is one fundraiser not to be missed! Each year Urban Curvz features a variety of Calgary’s most incredible female artists doing… whatever they feel inspired to do! Many take the opportunity to share self-created work, or to highlight a skill they might not be so famous for… and all donate their time. The Pumphouse Theatre joins in the generosity by donating the 300-seat Victor Mitchell Theatre and 100% of the proceeds get to directly support our programming!

Starring Valerie Ann Pearson, Elinor Hold, Patricia Benedict, Kathyrn Kerbes, Tammy Roberts, Jane MacFarlane, Ava Jane Markus, Julie Mortenson, Adrienne Smook, Esther Purves-Smith, and Nicola Elson.

Tonight: FUNDING DRIVE!

Our regular feminist programming will be on hiatus tonight as we participate in CJSW's annual funding drive. This is a very important week for the station - we are a listener-supported radio station and we need your love (and money!). In exchange for the love and money you send us, we will give you some sweet swag.

There are the usual CJSW incentives for pledging, including awesome t-shirts, joggers and toques (see the swag page for details). On top of that, Yeah What She Said will have our own give-aways! This year, your hosts (Jennie, Bee & Geea) have each made a mix CD of female artists that have inspired us and delighted our ears. When you pledge $60 or more you can take home a CD of your choice (plus a CJSW T-shirt and Friend's Card). Tonight's Show : Take Back The Night Candle Light Vigil

Tonight, Geea and I will be joined by a couple of the organizing members behind this year's Take Back The Night event in Calgary. You may have heard or read that the usual Take Back The Night march is not going forward this year due to lack of funding and a few other reasons , most of which we will discuss on tonight's program. However, a candlelight vigil will take place on Tuesday Sept. 22 at 8:00pm; we will be talking with Juliet and Jennifer about it.

Take Back The Night is an annual march, vigil and rally that takes place in September of each year. Participation is worldwide and events are held in almost every country around the globe. It's purpose has grown to not only focus on the right for women to feel safe from harm wherever they are but also to eliminate acts of violence against women on all fronts while encouraging awareness that violence - no matter whom it is directed to - cannot be tolerated. The event is typically a very empowering one and we hope that many of you will come out and show your support despite any financial "road-blocks" (pun was sort of intended).

Throw your very own B-Word/ Bitch Party!

Now, how much fun would it be to gather a handful of your coolest feminist friends together for drinks, snacks and a good cause? A crapload of fun, that's how much!

Bitch Magazine is asking all lovers of alternative women's media to support B-Word Worldwide, the non-profit organization that publishes Bitch magazine (one of our favourites) by throwing your own house party fundraiser.

We at Yeah, What She Said are pretty passionate about having the ability to voice our fiesty opinions. Publications such as Bitch magazine have played a huge role in allowing the women of our fine generation to do this, so we thought it would be nice to spread the love and encourage you to get involved. The goal is to generate a minimum of $1000.00 at each party. There's an in-depth House Party Planning Kit available to print or download if you would like some guidelines on how to make it all happen. Of course, the nature of your house party can take on a number of forms depending on your
preference (a chilled out sit-down dinner, perhaps? Or a cool mixer with tons of drinks and rad tunes!) There are few things better than socializing for a good cause and B-Word Worldwide is giving each of us the perfect excuse to do just that.

Spinster Aunt: Gag rule bagged for 4 years

The blogosphere's favorite Spinster Aunt and writer behind "I Blame The Patriarchy" is exercising a little dissidence and is doing it in an interesting way as she tends to. Check out what she had to say about US President Barack Obama' s recent repeal on the global abortion gag rule a.k.a "The New Mexico Policy" , initially instilled by the Reagan Administration in 1984, repealed by Clinton in 1993 and revived again by G.Dub back in 2001.

CJSW Funding Drive Edition of Yeah, What She Said!

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Tonight, Jennie and I hosted the CJSW Funding Drive Edition of Yeah, What She Said. CJSW Funding Drive is a very special time of year for both Jennie and I as well as all of the other members of the station. It's the one time in the year that we take time out to ask for donations from our loyal (and much appreciated) listeners. It's also an opportunity to reflect on some of the memorable episodes of the show that we've aired, some of the guests we've interviewed and its also a chance for you, the community, to call into the station and make a pledge in exchange for awesome swag and the continuation of quality alternative radio programming.

So Jennie and I would like to take this time to say a great big THANK YOU to everyone who called in to make a pledge for the show tonight! Funding Drive will continue until this coming Friday so you can continue making donations until then.
